Allophycocyanin (APC) is a fluorescent protein isolated from cyanobacteria algae in the Spirulina genus, with high absorptivity and quantum efficiency, and can be conjugated to proteins for fluorescent detection. Cross-linked Allophycocyanin is more stable than non-cross linked, and maintains the same spectral characteristics. This fluorescent protein is easily attached to antibodies, and other proteins, using standard cross-linking techniques. APC absorbs light at 651 nm maximum and emits at 660 nM maximum. The protein is applicable with fluorescence detection techniques, such as fluorescent activated cell sorting, flow cytometry, FRET, and ELISA.

Preparations Before Use:
APC is provided in ammonium sulfate solution. Therefore, APC needs to be re-suspended until no visible precipitates remain. APC must be extensively dialyzed prior to use to remove any remaining ammonium sulfate. Use PBS or your conjugation buffer (1 ml of APC to 1 liter of buffer) to dialyze a volume equivalent to at least two changes of buffer.
