Calcium Phosphate Transfection Kit
Calcium phosphate transfection is a simple, time efficient, and relatively inexpensive method to overexpress plasmid DNA in "easy to transfect cells" such as HEK293T, CHO and BHK cells. The calcium phosphate transfection technique requires few manipulative steps and maintains high levels of reproducibility from experiment to experiment. The FIVEphoton Biochemicals HEK293 Cell Calcium Phosphate Transfection Kit provides pre-configured reagents for gene introduction. Calcium phosphate transfection enables gene introduction into cells in the presence of serum and antibiotics. The calcium phosphate transfection solution can be kept overnight on cells without requiring a change in media on the day of transfection. In contrast to the calcium phosphate transfection method, liposome or cationic transfection methods are usually toxic to overnight exposure, requiring the inconvenience of removing the transfection mixture several hours after transfection.
Calcium phosphate transfection allows for simultaneous introduction of multiple plasmid DNAs, and therefore expression of multiple proteins from the transfected genes. Detection of the protein product expressed from the transfected gene using calcium phosphate transfection can be made after an overnight exposure to the transfection mixture. The Calcium Phosphate Transfection technique is routinely employed to introduce cDNAs into HEK293T, HEK293, CHO and BHK cells, and has been reported to work effectively in more highly differentiated cell lines, including neuronal cell lines. FIVEphoton Biochemicals recommends that the researcher should restrict use of calcium phosphate transfection methods to HEK293, HEK293T, CHO and BHK cells.
