Background on Alpha 2,6 Sialyltransferase

alpha2,6-sialyltransferase is a protein that transfers sialyc acid onto carbohydrate chains.  It is cleaved by Beta-secretase (BACE1), a protein that also cleaves Amyloid precursor protein, APP, to form the Beta-Amyloid (aBeta) plaques in neurons characterizing the initial lesion of Alzheimer's disease.  In rats, the cleaved alpha 2,6-sialyltransferase is in the E41 Form.

  1. Equilibrate plate to RT
  2. Add sample to plate, incubate overnight
  3. Add detection antibody, incubate 1 hr
  4. Add color reagents, 30 min
  5. Add stop solution.  Measure OD at 450nm
