R-Phycoerythrin Fluorescent Protein (10mg: Part R-PE-Five)
R-Phycoerythrin Fluorescent Protein
R-Phycoerythrin is an extremely luminous phycobilin naturally found in red algae. It is part of the phycoerythrin group of proteins which are associated with the main chlorophyll pigments responsible for photosynthesis. It consists of a phycobilin chromaphore bound to a disk-shaped protein. The chromaphore gives the protein-pigment complex its red color. The protein is easily conjugated to a variety of other proteins such as antibodies, and it is extremely water-soluble. R-Phycoerythrin is one of the brightest fluorescent dyes available today so it is extremely useful for fluorescence-based detection and labelling applications like flow cytometry, ELISA, and microarrays.
