Extracellular Immunofluorescence Cell Labeling Kit
Labeling of extracellular epitopes for immunofluorescent detection is an important method to characterize protein trafficking in cells as well as in mapping of extracellular domains of multi-pass transmembrane proteins. Extracellular immunofluorescence labeling procedures are employed to determine whether transmembrane proteins are positioned on the cell surface. This extracellular immunofluorescence staining (labeling) Kit (Part No. EIF-1) does not permeabilize cell membranes, enabling selective immunofluorescent labeling of extracellular epitopes. Immunofluorescence is displayed on the cell periphery after employing the reagents and protocol of this kit. Note that selective extracellular immunofluorescence labeling requires the use of antibodies that exclusively recognize extracellular epitopes.
In contrast to the Extracellular Immunofluorescence Labeling Kit, the FIVEphoton Biochemicals Intracellular Immunofluorescence Staining (labeling) Kit (INF-1;link) provides reagents that permeabilize membranes, resulting in the detection of immunofluorescence associated with both intracellular and extracellular epitopes. A permeabilization buffer is included with the Intracellular Immunofluorescence Labeling Kit that enables detection of antigens in virtually all cellular compartments.
